AirBNB Stays

Book a stay using AirBNB. AirBNB hosts travelers in homes throughout the United States and internationally.

Enjoy the comforts of being at home, while you are away from home. You may be looking for a private get-away to spend some time with your significant other, a place for your next family reunion, or as a place to live for a few days in a different setting. Homeowners list their homes on AirBNB and prepare a room or the entire house as lodging for guests. Hosts are welcoming to guests accommodating for everything needed during their stay including towels, bedding, extra food and toiletries, and recommendations to local landmarks and tourist sites.

A few years ago I used AirBNB and booked a few stays throughout the Dallas area. Booking a stay was easy. Searching a city for listings during a certain time range, I was able to see what listings were available. AirBNB shows listings on a map with price markers that can be clicked on to show details and photos of the home. The listing’s page also shows the details of the price including cleaning fees, extra guest fees, and other added on costs. Everything is paid for in advance. After booking a stay, I was able to locate the home on a map and then travel to the home to arrive by check-in time.

Hosts were very friendly at all of the places I stayed at. Only one place did not have a host, but there were details of where I could find the key. Many of the places have keyless entries with codes set on the door. I was welcomed when I arrived, shown to my room, and asked if I needed anything. I typically did not see the homeowners much. Whether they lived on property or not, they were usually not home. In some of the homes, there were multiple AirBNB guests. We might share the kitchen or bathroom, but for the most part everyone stayed to themselves. Everyone was friendly and professional. There never was a concern for safety within the house or with other guests. If anything was needed, the hosts were happy to see what they could do to provide it, if at all possible.

Just recently I came to Oklahoma and had a chance to help with preparing and renovating several AirBNB homes near Fort Sill Air Force Base. Ft. Sill is 81 miles southwest of Oklahoma City and 54 miles north of Wichita Falls, TX. With a city population of 100,000, it retains it’s small town feel, but has all of the major businesses to be found in any city such as Wal-Mart, Sam’s Club, Lowes, Big Lots, DollarTree, Aldi, and local food establishments. Almost everything is within a couple of miles. Lawton, Oklahoma is home to Ft. Sill, Cameron University, the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge, and 3 lakes including Lake Lawtonka, Lake Ellsworth, and Elmer Thomas Lake. There are also several museums including the Museum of the Great Plains, The Fort Sill Museum, and The Comanche National Museum and Cultural Center. One landmark you won’t want to miss is Elmer Thomas Park with its Patriot Pavilion and tributes throughout the park to the United States and those who have served. This park also has hundreds of prairie dogs who live in burrowed holes and pop out above ground to greet visitors.

There are 5 AirBNB homes in Lawton, OK which are within a mile or more radius of each other owned by the same owner. Three of the AirBNBs are cottages with the traditional stoned exterior to the houses which is characteristic of the pioneers who first settled in Oklahoma. The Carobelle Cottage is a beautiful cottage which is cozy and spacious. It has wooden floors, a modern kitchen, long kitchen table in the dining room, a living room which can seat 8 people with a TV and a remote control operated fireplace, 3 bedrooms with queen sized beds, two single beds, and a crib area, and an outdoor hot tub. This home can host up to 10-12 people. Hunterston Cottage, has a rustic feel to it with its hardwood floors, a large dining table, a family style kitchen, living room with 3 couches and TV, enclosed colorful front patio, and 2 bedrooms with queen sized beds. It sleeps four people. The home is decorated with one of the world’s largest collections of weeping gold Savoy China, as well as other art collectables, and a cubby filled with a collection of tea. The large yard has wooden lawn chairs for relaxing and enjoying the outdoors with stacks of firewood in the background and an outdoors barn shed. The Cameron Cottage, located off of Ft. Sill just a few blocks from The Cameron Cottage, is under construction with plans to be ready later in 2021. This cottage was just recently purchased and is currently being renovated. It has 3 bedrooms, hardwood floors throughout the home, a living area with a piano and oversized couch, a formal dining area, dining nook, and a kitchen.

Besides the 3 cottages, there are two themed AirBNB homes: The Pumpkin and The Wizard World Cottage. The Pumpkin which is painted pumpkin orange on the exterior, and decorated with themed pumpkins and owls on the inside, is available for AirBNB bookings and sleeps 9 people. The interior of the cottage walls are painted in varying shades of pumpkin orange throughout the home. This cottage has two queen sized beds, three single beds (2 of which are a bunk bed and the other a daybed with trundle), one full sized bed, and a crib. The kitchen with an industrial feel to it is nested in the middle of the house complete with all kitchen utensils. It shares space with a full sized washer and dryer in the same room. Outside there is a bonfire pit and grill that guests can enjoy. The living room has a collection of colored miniature owls around the perimeter of the room along ceiling high shelving. There are large comfortable couches for visiting and a TV. The dining room just inside the entryway is across from the living room. The home is decorated with macrame owls, ceramic owl artwork, and paintings that match the theme of the home.

The Wizard World Cottage, is scheduled to be open the first week in January. This home has a fantasy theme to it—one of unicorns, wizards, and Harry Potter. The house has dark brown hardwood floors throughout the home. With its modern feel to it, the bathroom which recently was remodeled, has stainless steel fixtures and a newly tiled shower and. The shower is made of black and white tile and is decorated with purple stained glass colored tile. It is in the same style of the bathrooms found in the The Pumpkin Cottage. The kitchen is decorated in black, purple, and white with unicorn and silver curtains. The color scheme is carried throughout the kitchen with purple kitchen utensils, and two colors of purple colored pots and pans stored on white shelves above the counter space, and a purple hand painted back splash wall made of tile that stretches the length of the kitchen. The magical theme continues throughout the home with painted doors in varying tints of purple, matching curtains, and a unicorn shower curtain in the bathroom. Guests can relax sitting on the newly-upholstered plush, purple couches with large over-sized pillows made of purple colored shimmery fabric in the living room and watch TV or visit. The dining room has a low vaulted ceiling with a beautiful wooden table that seats 8 people. Themed artwork is being selected to decorate the home. This home sleeps 5 people with a king sized bed, a full-sized bed and a single bed.
